The WatSan fellowship placed trained young professionals close to rural communities so that local water and sanitation priorities could be understood, planned and addressed through participation.
Learning by living with communities
Fellows were recruited, inducted, trained and mentored, then worked in villages to understand local conditions, facilitate participatory planning and help communities implement practical improvements.
Programme footprint
Two cohorts comprising 17 fellows worked across Gram Panchayats in Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag and Kolar districts. Historical records describe improvements in sanitation coverage and community water infrastructure in participating locations.
